Executive Council

Miss Christine Aitken

Christine has been dancing since the age of 2 1/2years, winning the Scottish Championship at Cowal in 1957. She is the Principal of the Christine E. Aitken Academy of Dance in Paisley & Johnstone and have been teaching for 38years, Chairman of the Association's Highland Committee and member of the Stage and Ballet Committee. She has been for many years a delegate of the Association on the SOBHD and also their Technical Committee. She is also Vice Chairman of the Scottish District (West). Christine is an Examiner with the B.A.T.D. and also S.O.B.H.D. Adjudicator.

Miss Helen Ford

Helen trained at the Sadie Simpson School of Dancing in Glasgow and later performed professionally in several stage shows in the Kings and Pavilion Theatres. She is also a licentiate of the London College of Music in Speech & Drama. Helen has held several offices within the Association and was president from 1991-95. She is also an examiner in the Theatre Branches.

Miss Christine Lacey

Christine is a fellow and Examiner of the BATD, a member of the Executive Council, a member of the Stage and Ballet Committee and Secretary of the Highland Committee. She is also a BATD technical delegate to the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing, District Treasurer for Scottish District West and an International Adjudicator on the S.O.B.H.D.
Among Christine's "highland" credits are six times World Highland Dancing Champion.

Mrs May Martin

May is a Life Member, fellow and examiner, in the Highland and Scottish National branches, and a member of the Associations Highland Committee. She was originally trained by the Famous Bobby Cuthbertson and later by Andrew Sutherland, resusting in May being Bobby's last champion and Andrews' First Scottish champion. For many years she was the leader of the of the Lanarkshire Scottish Country Dance Competition Team. May is also on the Panel of Adjudicators of the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing, which allows her to travel both here in the UK and overseas judging competitions and championships. An authority on Highland dress, May was a consultant with Hector Russell Highland Industries.

Mr Joseph Wallin

Joseph is a fellow and examiner of the association and Chairman of the Maritime Provinces Branch. His dance carrer has spanned over 50 years. He is a former Maritime Highland Dance Champion, danced in a ballet company for 3 years, many musicals and on television. He currently runs his own dance school. Choreographer of the Nova Scotia Int. Tattoo for the past 24 years and is Artistic Director of Amethyst Scottish Dancers of Nova Scotia and Footnotes Dance Troupe.

Miss Bonnie Barr

Bonnie is a Fellow Examiner for the B.A.T.D. and Life Member. She is also the Freestyle Delegate on the British Dance Council and was part of the committee who put together the first Freestyle Medal and Professional syllabus for the B.A.T.D. She has trained 100's of very successful Freestyle competitors over a 25 year spaqn and also plays a very instrumental role in the running of Dancedreams Theatre School which has also produced many prodigies to the theatre world. She started teaching Stage & Freestyle 36 years ago and was trained in Ballroom and Latin American by her father Mr Bobby Barr.

Mr David Johnston

David is a Fellow Examiner for the B.A.T.D. and Life Member. David also serves on the Association's Ballroom committee. David is third generation form a dancing family with a very long relationship with the B.A.T.D. His grandfather Mr Johnny Doak was president of the B.A.T.D. in 1930. David's career in Ballroom and Latin American took him around the world competing, amongst others he was finalist in the Professional Worlds Latin American Championships. He along with his wife Bonnie have enjoyed being involved with the choreography in many TV and film productions.

Mr Howard Cookson

Howard is a fellow and examiner in the ballroom branches. He is currently also a member of the Association’s Ballroom Committee and is the North West Area Chairperson. Along with his wife Joanne, they have won many inventive dance competitions which include two wins at the prestigious Blackpool Dance Festival. Howard has been compare of the BATD Inventive Dance Competition which is held at Annual Conference for the last few years and assists in the running of the BATD North West Area Medallist Competition.

Miss Gayle Johnson

Gayle is a Fellow and Examiner for the B.A.T.D. Stage branches and is a Life Member of the Association. She is an active delegate of the T.D.C.I and has served many years on the Stage and Ballet Technical Committee. Gayle has run a prestigious dance school offering all genres of dance, thus making her aware of the ever changing youth of today. As an All England and British Federation Adjudicator, her dedication and encouragement ensures professional development at all times. Gayle is delighted to have been elected on to the B.A.T.D. Executive Council.
